Personification

Kia Ora everyone,

Today we did some writing using descriptive verbs and personification.

They are just so good that I had to share the whole lot!

When it's windy the sunflowers are trying to race out of the dirty and grassy ground. They want to explore the universe. The sun is a whole lot of hot, shiny stars. Lots of white sponges surrounded by the sun.

By Jakeb C.

The sunflower sprinkles her seeds all over me like a shower. Her leaves are tickley on my face. Her petals make a pillow and swish across the sky.

By Lucy

The stars are shooting by like a cheetah. The stars are bright like my white teeth.

By Hugo

The sun sings a soft lullaby to the clouds. The sun is a shiny face looking at me. The sun swims in the hot sky. The sun blows the clouds away from the sky. The sun is a big, bright sunflower.

By Julia

In the wild sky there is a something shooting by. "There is someone looking at me", I said to the sky. She said to me, "maybe it is a rocket shooting by you". I said to her, "maybe it is a lantern".

By Esme

The sun is hot in Samoa and it makes me tired.

By Junior

The sun shines and lights up the blue, dark sky and whispers to the clouds a nice lullaby.

By Rosa

The sun is as hot as lava and as gold as the stars in the night sky. It burns down to the sleepy world below and whispers to the clouds. The sunflower waves her leaves in the breeze. She bends down and pleads me for water.

By Emily

The sun is a big star that waves to the world below. The sun tells funny jokes to the clouds. She sometimes shoots to her bed and snuggles up tight.

By Charlotte

The  stars are someones gleaming eyes, twinkling in the night sky. The stars are like fireworks, sparks everywhere.

By Pearl

The sun burns its bright arms of fire, like a sausage on fire.  The sun shoots out like a cannon ball shooting out of a cannon.

By Connor

The sun shines like a diamond shining brightly, like fire, like flames.

By James

The sun is burning down the sky, shining down the very gold sun, so hot, like the desert. So hot.

By William

The sun's arms are fire trying to set the clouds on fire. That's the evil sun.

By Nico

The sun is very hot. It is like a BBQ. If you touch the BBQ, it is like the sun. The sun makes you sweat. Put sunscreen on or the sun will burn your whole body!

By Dylan

The sun slowly sets as the moon comes up for a nap in the sky. While the sun sets, it goes for a great holiday on the mountain top. It warms the lions as they sleep during summer. At last it comes back up.

By Caitlin

I rang santa up. Santa said to me, "you are good, now you can get presents for christmas time".

By Sylvie

The stars are angels gleaming and twinkling in the dark, night sky. But, as dawn breaks up from his holiday, the stars go back home under the ground where they'll have a cup of tea. When the sun journeys back home, the stars come back to the dark, black sky and go back to work on the computer.

By Molly

The sunflower is a lady who grows out of the ground. She's like the sun, except she doesn't grow that high. She sparkles and shines from the sun. When the breeze is high, the leaves from the sunflower come alive. She waves her leaves to me to say, "hi". She sometimes bends down to pour some sunflower seeds in my hand. She says goodbye to me and squishes her petals to go to sleep.

The wild wind

Hi all, today we decided to write about the wind as it is such a wild, windy day!

Wind

The wind feels strong like giant footsteps. The wind looks like the sky is broken. I love the wind. The wind pulls me like a toy. The coldest wind is point zero %. "Cold aye", I said, "aaaaahhhhhhhhh! Im getting blown through a bush backwards!"

By Caitlin

The Wind

I like the wind because it sings me a lullaby every night. It helps me snuggle down in my cozy bed so I can sleep.

By Molly

The Wind

I like the wind because it will blow my dad's car away. I think we could drive in the sky. Then the wind would let go of us. We would drop down.

By William

The Wind

I like the wind because it blows me along. It feels like I'm magic. I like the wind because we get to go on the computer or watch a movie or we will play with the lego. It's fun.

Tena Koutou Katoa

Hello everyone, we have been busy writing more stories and recrafting them.

The following are from people who have really tried hard to improve their stories.

Off To The Farm

I am going to the farm. The farm has some animals. There are horses and cows and sheep. I ride a horse. My mum is picking me up after school at 3 o' clock.

By Sylvie

I made a pop up book about houses. It has a contents page. It has some games in it. Today I am going to after school care. Today I am going out with my mum, Gino, and Gino's friend, Paul. (after recrafting...) We went to Denny's. We had lots of food. I wanted to have a fruit salad for pudding, but but they ran out of them. It was cute. After school care was fun. We played on the playground most of the time. I talked to the teachers about school.

By Jakeb C.

Solar Eclipse

Today is the solar eclipse. The school might have special glasses to see the solar eclipse. They have film tapes in the special glasses. I saw the solar eclipse with my class. It was awesome. The sun looked like a red moon, with pink aswell. There won't be another solar eclipse for over ten years. I will be a teenager at high school!

By Nico

Yesterday we went to the library. Vanessa read a book called Revolting Rhymes. It had funny jokes. One joke was,

Knock, knock
Who's there?
Interrupting sheep
Interrupting sheep who?
Baaa!

Then we went back to school. My mum came too. We held hands with each other. It was really fun.

Story Time

Hi everyone,  today we only have one story to share, as it is a long one! Enjoy, and please leave us a message if you'd like to!

The Evil Queen

Yesterday I made a book at school. It was about an evil queen who killed Lucy. Lucy was a nice queen who protected everyone. In Fairyland, she looked for any danger arond her or her friends. She liked everyone in Fairyland.  Her danger was the wild cats. She got robbed by some of them so they fought them and the wild cats fought back to the magic stars. Some of the wild cats caught the stars, but the stars escaped from the dungeons. The magic stars captured the wild cats. Everyone said sorry and they all went out together.

What a week it's been!

Hello out there,

We have had a week full of interesting things to write about...

We had our exciting weekends, guy fawkes, and then we summarised all that we had learnt so far about China, in the form of a list.  We found that we had learnt a whole lot. We also decided that instead of our regular reading  activities on Wednesday and Thursday, we would write books, using recycled paper. We shared them in assembly.

Here are just a few of our stories:

Things I have learnt about China
  1. I learnt that if you went into the Forbidden City, you could loose your head. That could also cause pain.
  2. I learnt that Shanghai is the largest city in China.
  3. Goldfish make great pets.
  4. The giant black and white panda are the slowest animals in China.
  5. You can see the great wall of China from the moon.
  6. I also learnt that the great wall of China is the longest wall in the whole world.
By Caitlin

Ballet Lessons

Yesterday I went to ballet lessons. My mum is going to the ballet lessons too. It is so much fun. I like the ballet lessons. My mum watched me.

By Sylie

Things I have learnt about China
  1. In the Forbidden City, if you entered and you were not a noble person, you would loose your head, but not now, that was in the olden days.
  2. In Shanghai I learnt that there is a shop called Pearls City.
  3. Goldfish make great pets because there is no room for dogs.
  4. Dragons fly so fast nobody can see them.
  5. Only one child is allowed in each family.
By Molly

Things I have learnt about China
  1. In China they have fireworks.
  2. Kids in China love to fly kites
  3. People eat with chopsticks.
  4. Cats and goldfish make great pets because there is no room for dogs.
  5. Pandas need to eat their own body weight in bamboo every day.
By Charlotte

Thinking about Fireworks

Last night me and my mum were making a cake while waiting for guy faulks to come. Beautiful flashing came out when the fireworks were out. I rushed out the door and my whole family came out. I saw heaps of colourful flashing down the black velvet sky.

By William

Watching fireworks at home when I was four

Two years ago, when I ws four years old, I saw fireworks blooming in the twinkling sky at home. My sister was too young to watch them zoom in the old sky. I saw all the colours of the rainbow. Some fireworks split up into different colours. I enjoyed seeing the fireworks.

By Samantha

That is all for now, we hope you like reading our stories. We have been trying hard to make them really interesting, using describing words, so that they will be enjoyable to read.

Have a great weekend!

Story time...

Halloween

Last night I went trick or treating. Not many people came to our house. I got lots of lollies of different kinds and they were yummy. Our house was decorated with a big long string with pumpkins and cobwebs on it. One house didn't have lollies so they gave me Oreos. I went with Gino.

By Jakeb C

Summertime

Last summer me and my brother and my mum and my dad zoomed to the beach. Me and Louis splashed in the water and the sun was out. After we went in the water, I built a sandcastle with a big red bucket. It looked like a strawberry. Me and Louis threw beach balls to each other. Then me and my dad carried each other really deep out into the sea.

By Rosa

Halloween Trick or Treating

On Wednesday it was halloween. I went to Miss Finch's home first. I saw Chelsea. Most people were out. One man gave me a packet of chippies. Alex didn't come because he had a bad day at school. Also, my next door neighbours, Eddie and Matylda, came with me. My dad came too. Miss Finch gave me, Eddie and Matylda two chocolate bars each. When I got home I got some more from my mummy.

By Esme

Last summer

Last summer I went to the beach and I made a big sandcastle. I loved the sun shining and beaming on my back. I also loved the sun blazing onto my hair. My sandcastle was as big as a grown up. I looked around but my ball wasn't there. I saw Flo had the ball. Dad said, "Come on Pearl, it's time for lunch!". I felt very happy to spend such great times and make such wonderful memories with my family.

Talking About China

Ni hao everybody,

This term one of our major topics is China. We have been so lucky to have two people come in to our class and talk to us about their experiences.

Firstly, Mr Li came in, William's dad. He gave us a sheet of Chinese characters. These characters are symbols which are words in Chinese. He gave us bookmarks for our books. Lucky us! Mr Li told us that dragons are so fast, nobody has ever seen one! We thought that was pretty funny.

Secondly we had Steve Daw, Caitlin's dad. He just came today and told us all about how many people are in China and how many there are in NZ. 1,200,000,000 people live in China! No wonder there's not much room for dogs as pets, but goldfish make great pets. We learnt you can see the great wall of China from the moon. Pearl learnt that in Shanghai there is a shop called Pearl City.  In the time of emperors and dynasty's, if you tried to get into the forbidden city, you could lose your head!! But not today.

That's all we have time for today. Look out for more stories later this week.

Zaijain (goodbye)

Welcome back to Term 4!

Welcome everyone, it is now Term 4.  Today we wrote about our school holidays. Here are just a few samples of the great writers in Room 3.

In the holidays I went to Kelly Tarltons and it was an aquarium. There was a glass tunnel with squid and eels and sharks. I saw the gold too. After, we went to the cafe'.

By Hugo

In the holidays I went to the shop and I saw a horse. My mum bought it for me. She put it in her bedroom.

By Sylvie

In the holidays I had my ears pierced and I got a... lollipop! I didn't cry. I got to choose my own earings. They are green and then I went home.

By Charlotte

In the holidays I got some badges and posters at the zoo. I lost my hat, but I got it back. I went to a Cinderella play and Connor came for a play date.

The day of my birthday...

Kia Ora

So many of our class have been having birthdays recently or are having birthdays soon, that we decided to write about them.  We hope you enjoy reading about them! Don't forget to leave us a comment. Thank you :)

My Birthday

When I pulled my covers back I jumped out of bed! I ran along the hallway. I went to my sisters room and shouted, "Anneke! Rebecca! It's my birthday!" Then I went to my mum's and dad's room and shouted, "Mum, dad, it's my birthday!" I was turning five. I felt really excited.

By Emily

Exciting Birthday

I woke very early and woke up my parents. Then I had breakfast. Then we went to my birthday. It was in Junglerama. I invited only one person from school. All the others were my friends from outside of school. Some were boys, some were girls. I had a Barbie cake. It had flowers around the Barbie. We had fun. Then everyone went home.

By Julia

Happy Birthday

When it was my birthday I woke up my mum and dad and brother. It was early. I ran down the stairs. I quickly opened my presents and waited for my guests. I felt good.

In the weekend...

Today we wrote about what we did in the weekend. Today we are sharing two stories. We hope you enjoy them and leave us a comment.

Spraining my ankle.

On the weekend I went to Christchurch and I sprained my ankle. It hurt me a lot and it was my grandpa's birthday. When I sprained my ankle I cried. My grandpa came and put on a plaster and took me home. I felt better when he put me in my bed. I went to sleep.

By Rosa.

Sleeping in a hut.

In the weekend I walked to a hut. The hut had no lights. In the first place, me and my brother explored the hut. We found a cupboard. In the cupboard was bark. We slept in a sleeping bag. In the morning we walked home. When we got home, I felt exhausted.

Hi Everybody

Hi everyone,

It's been a little while since we last wrote as we have been so busy with the production. We loved seeing the other syndicate's performances too, especially The Machine Stops, from the Senior Syndicate. We liked the bit where Tane came along and did a hand shake and when the humans said "the machines have totally stopped". The Middle Syndicate did a fab job too, with their performance The Battle Of The Mountains. We liked the taniwha's and the really colourfully painted mountain hats.

But of course we loved our performance the best! Old McDonald and his musical farm were a firm hit, as were Tom Tom and his little piglets, and of course the wonderful skippers. You guys rocked!

Something you may not know is that out of the entire Junior Syndicate, Rosa Stanley's picture of Humpty Dumpty was chosen to be on the front cover of our Production programme.

That's all for now, we will be putting on more writing from next week onwards, so keep an eye out and don't forget to put on a comment. I've asked the IT people why some comments haven't come through (I publish all the comments that do come through), and apparently its because the correct process isn't being followed. You must push 'publish' at the end.

Thanks for reading our blog, we appreciate it!

Our Olympic Presentations

Hi everyone,

Today the people who were judged the winners from Room 8 presented their facts about the olympics in assembly. Emily introduced the item superbly, and William held the microphone for everyone  fantastically. The speakers themselves, were utterly amazing.  They were so outstanding, that Mr McGimpsy said how impressed he was with them. So well done Jacob, Rosa, Caitlin, Emily and William. You showed tremendous confidence. We are all proud of you!

Hello from Rm 3

Kia Ora everyone,

we thought we'd have more time for literacy and numeracy this term as there is no swimming, but the production is taking up even more time than swimming so we've had less time for writing our stories on this blog. However, we will try and get at least one story up a week. Today we have a little more time so we will share a few more.

The children have learnt so many facts about the olympics that they are going to share some of them at assembly tomorrow.

Today we wrote about our reflections.

My Reflection

I look in the mirror and I see a beating heart. I see a green eyed girl looking at me. I see a helping friend who is kind, looking at me.

By Lucy

Mirrors

When I look in the mirror I see someone looking at me. I don't know who it is but I stare at her for a long time.

By Caitlin

My Self

When I look in the mirror I see my heart. It makes me feel good.

By Connor

What I See

I look in the mirror and what do I see? Another friend smiling back at me. I see a love heart.

By Emily

What Do I See?

What do I see in the mirror? I see someone who has the same eye colour as me. I see someone who likes to be quiet. I see someone who has the same colour hair as me.

The end of the week...

Hi everyone, it's great to be back at school!

We all had fantastic holidays doing loads of ultra cool stuff. We wrote all about it and Miss Finch has published our stories for everyone to read when you next come into our classroom. Please come and read them as we are very proud of them.

No swimming this term.

Thanks for all the costumes for our production. We're all excited about performing it for you in week 6.

Have a brilliant weekend.

Stunning Starry Night

Today we wrote at least two sentences about the stars in the night sky. We brainstormed lots of interesting words that reminded us of stars, like jewels, treasure, gold shining, sparklers, glitter, floating lanterns, sunflowers, constellations and more.

We decided to take all our sentences and share them all because we did such a fantastic job that we couldn't choose just one person's work!

Stunning Starry Night

The stars glitter, shining gold from the dark night sky. Guojinwang
The crystal stars glitter in the black sky. Charlotte
The stars are twinkling at me, shining in the black sky. Julia
The stars are glittering crystals, twinkling in the sky. Molly
The stars are yellow sparkling in the cloud's big sky. Rosa
The stars are like beautiful silver glittering lanterns, floating in the sky. Lucy
The stars are lanterns in the shining gold sky. Dylan
The stars are treasures, as bright as the sun. The stars very glittery constellations. Jacob
The stars are glittering lanterns, shining gold. Esme
The stars are like pictures in the sky, called constellations. The stars are like beautiful treasure, glittering and shining. Samantha
The stars are lanterns flying in the sky, crystals gleaming in the sky. Nico
The stars are glittering, yellow up in the sky. Hugo
The stars remind me of crystals and the colour yellow. Connor
The stars are the sun, just a bit further away. They're as sparkly as gold and as pretty as a lantern. Caitlin
The stars glitter and remind me of crystals and lanterns. James
The stars are golden lanterns floating in the sky. Emily
The stars are floating pictures called constellations. Pearl

What a fantastic job you all did today! I am most impressed with your descriptive language. Well done.

Max as in Maximum Height!

Kia Ora everyone,

We have a new addition to our class. His name is Max and he is a giraffe. We made him ourselves. We drew brown spots on some paper and then we cut them out. Once we had a whole lot of spots, we glued them onto Max's neck and face.  Max is our guard giraffe because he is going to live right outside our classroom door.  We also made sure Max had plenty to eat. We coloured and cut out loads of leaves too.

Thank you for reading our poems!

Jumbo, Kia Ora, Ni Hao and Dag (that's Dutch if you didn't know!),

Room three would like to say a big, enormous THANK YOU for reading our poems and leaving us feedback.

We really appreciate it!  We were amazed, and very impressed, that people on the other side of the world in America, read  things that we had thought of and created.

Today we had swimming so we don't have any stories or poems to post, but we will be back tomorrow.

Until then,

Take care and good bye from Room 3.

Today in writing we wrote about a grandparent.

Kia Ora everybody,

Here are our three fab writers of the day...

Grandpa

My Grandpa takes me to the dairy to get a treat.
My Grandpa takes me for a walk.
My Grandpa takes me to the pool.
My Grandpa takes me to the zoo.
My Grandpa makes me feel like the most special child in the whole wide world.

Grandma

My Grandma takes me to playgrounds every day.
My Grandma takes me gardening because I like flowers.
My Grandma takes me home when Mummy is working.
My Grandma takes me out in the garden so I can see beautiful butterflies.
My Grandma makes me feel like the most special child in the whole wide world.

By Samantha

Grandad

My Grandad takes me fishing on the beach.
My Grandad makes me cup cakes.
My Grandad plays sports with me.
My Grandad takes me to the zoo.

Our writing today

Hi everyone, from now on, we are going to publish three stories of the day from our story writing.

Please give us feedback.

Today we wrote poems about where we live.

Our Home

Above my house is a moon rising.
Beside my house is a frog croaking.
Below my house is a kangaroo bouncing.
Around my house are bats flying.
Inside my house is a snake slithering!

By Hugo

My House

Above my house is smoke billowing out of the chimney.
Beside my house is my dog burying a bone.
Below my house are worms squiggling.
Around my house is a kennel and plants.
Inside my house is my dog and me!

By Pearl

My house

Above my house are birds squarking.
Beside my house is a hose sprouting on the lawn.
Below my house are mice crawling.
Around my house are lots of flowers.
Inside my house is all my family
and me!

Off We Went...

Hi everyone,

Yesterday we had a very fun, fabulous and furry day at the zoo. We raced around the zoo road, spying all the small scurrying aminals, like the monkeys, mere cats and mice. And all the long legged large ones, like the lions, the giraffes and cheetahs. The gorilla's were monkeying around, going upside down, climbing ropes and sliding down wooden poles. After morning tea, we went inside where we met Lynn who taught us all about animal habitats and patterns. We got to touch a lizard, a hedgehog and a... RAT!!! Can you believe it?

Today we raced down Haitaitai hill to the library. We met Vanessa who taught us how to find certain books. We got into groups and had a challenge. We had to find a new book, a CD book, a book with a certain coloured cover and a book whose author started with a certain letter. It was lots of fun.

I hope everyone's homework made it to your house...some children forgot their homework books again :(

Tomorrow we are off again... to swimming! We can't wait.

Until next time, see you later from Room 3.

Kilbirnie School, Room 3 Blog

Kia Ora everybody,

We're going to the zoo on Monday! Yipee! Well, we hope are, it just depends on the weather.  We are looking forward to seeing lots of animals and animal patterns. Some of our favourite animals are: tigers, giraffes, cheetah's, zebra's, leopards, elephants, and lions.

We wanted to tell you how much we enjoyed seeing Harold. Harold, from the Life Education Trust, taught us what our bodies need to keep healthy and happy. Can you remember to tell your parents any of these?

On Wednesday we did our swimming lessons. We love Kilbirnie Pool and we love swimming!

Until next time, Take care and keep safe.

Hi everyone,

This is Miss Finch's first ever blog!

This term we are learning all about patterns. Last week we created wave patterns. Then we put little yachts, made out of triangles on top of them, to make some awesome pictures. Check them out.

This week we are creating repeating koru patterns.  We are going to make a boarder. They look amazing!

Don't forget, this week we are going to the zoo, where we will see many more patterns.

But today... WE ARE GOING TO MEET HAROLD THE GIRAFFE, with the life education trust. WE CAN'T WAIT!!

Okay, until next time, Ka Kite ano from Room 3.

Hello Room 3

Hello Room 3,
How are you?  Are you having a nice week so far?  I hear that the teacher who is looking after you is a lovely lady.  I'm still at home - and still coughing! It's not much fun. But, it is great being able to look at your blog and keep up to date with what Ruckus is doing!

Some of you have asked how to leave a comment, so here are some instructions for you:

1) At the bottom of the post (or page if it is on Ruckus' page) there is a little box that tells you how many comments have been left so far:
2) Click on the link that says ' '0' comments' (there might be some comments already there if others have left comments before you).
3) Then you can write your comment in the box that pops up.
4) The most important thing is that you select the profile that you comment as.  (Mums and Dads,  unless you have an online profile such as a google account or one of the other listed accounts, you will need to post as 'anonymous').
5) Once you have posted your comment, you can click 'publish'.  An email will then be sent to me and I can approve your comment for the blog.

Happy Commenting!
See you soon Room 3

Oliver & lynella come to visit!

It was an interesting morning in room 3 today, as Oliver & Lynella came to teach us all about wearing hearing aids & how we can help people who wear hearing aids.

These are some of the ways we learnt that can help people to hear us clearly.

1) Make sure you are close to the person when you are speaking.
2) Make sure that you look at the person when you are speaking.
3) Make sure that you speak clearly when you are speaking.

Hello Room 3

Hi room 3,
I'm so sorry to have not seen you all this week so far.  I have had a nasty cough and the Doctor ordered me to rest for a few days.  I'd much rather be at school with you guys though! I have been thinking about our Mihi's and getting them finished for assembly on Thursday. Hopefully we will manage to get that done in time.
See you very soon,
Miss Rhodes

Wacky Hair Day for Christchurch

We came to school and everyone laughed at our wacky hair! We bought gold coins to give to the people of Christchurch.  The money is going to a charity called 'Gap Fillers' they are a charity that are filling in the gaps in Christchurch with fun and exciting activities.  Watch this space for some funny pictures of our wacky hair styles!
