Enjoy your weekend

Tena koutou katoa

We've had a fantastic day visiting the Museum of City and Sails.

Some of our favourite parts were watching the movie about the taniwhas' and Maui, especially when the taniwha's eye popped down from the ceiling. Philippa and Riley liked visiting the old ship store room filled with bales, smelly ropes, mice and sounds from when the first European settlers arrived in New Zealand from England. Benji particularly enjoyed it when he opened the curtain  of the porthole and saw a diver out the window! Marcel had fun finding the largest and smallest boats and we all loved touching the two Maori carvings; Maui and Kupe.

We also have some stories to share with you from this week. We had to choose a colour to write about and brainstorm all the things that we thought of when we thought about that colour. Then we had to add an adjective to the beginning and a verb to the end.

Storytime...

Aye, aye shipmates!

Our Sea Adventures enquiry topic is going really well. At the moment we are organising a trip to the Maritime Museum. I will be sending home a permission slip with all the details about it in the next couple of days.

Today in Writing, we were working on using speech marks and a simile.  Hector has done a fabulous job with his story, below.

The other night I zapped to my friends house...well actually, my cousin's house. We watched Shark Boy and Lava Girl. Then it was hometime. I said, "Goodbye Aunty Eva." And we disappeared off into the dark. The night was as warm as a blanket.

Tomorrow we are off to the ASB Centre again so please remember to wear the appropriate footwear and clothing so you can run around easily and not trip over. We are all very excited about playing Floor Ball!

Room 6 are selling cupcakes for 50 cents each on Monday. There is a limit of two per person. If you would like one, please remember to to bring along your money.

Please come into our classroom and see our Enquiry display. The children have been working so hard at making bright and colourful under water dioramas, full of fish, seaweed, shells, rocks, sharks, starfish, whales, mermaids and more.

Have a great day.

Story time

Kia Ora everyone,

Today we are going to share some stories.

I looked on Max's PSP. I looked and looked and looked. By Rory

In the holidays I went to New Plymouth. I was afraid to go down the hydro slide. My whole body was frozen. Then I went down the hydro slide. By Theo

My cousin plays hockey. There's lots of people playing too. I love my cousin. She's the best at hockey. She always gets goals. Sometimes the other team gets goals, but I like my cousin's team best. By Delaney

A long, long time ago I was scared to go down a dark, dark water slide. I figured out it was fun after I went down. Paris

A woman was surfing on a board. A dophin was tired going up and down. A big wave came up into the air and down again. The sun rose and it shimmered onto the waves like the moon was sparkling on them. Caitlin

My body was shaking. I was frozen. Then I looked at the sea. I said to myself, "Okay, I'll do it". And I did. My father was very proud. "It's getting very late", my father called out so I got out and we went home. Hector

Kia Ora

Kia Ora everyone,

Today we travelled to the library and we talked to Ottarly, for the first time, about how we find books. We learnt that the letters on the spine of fiction books come from the author's last name. We also learnt that the numbers on non fiction books are from the dewy decimal system.

We didn't loose anyone along the way on our brisk walk because we were holding hands. Thanks Megan, for lending us a helping hand on our trip.

We'd all like to tell you that our reading is going very well and in our writing we are doing extremely awesome work. We especially like "show, don't tell".

Have a lovely day.

Welcome...

Kia Ora everyone,

Welcome back to Term 3. It's great to see eveybody here today, bright and shiny.

I hope you all had a chance to enjoy this wonderful weather we've been having.

Happy birthday to Theo!!  Six years old today.

This term our enquiry is ocean adventures. This will cover lots of interesting things about the sea, what's in it, on it, and even a bit about pirates!

As part of our art, we all need a shoe box so we  can make a diorama. I have been collecting them over the year, but if you have any others, please bring them in for us to use.

Spelling resumes this Friday. If anybody is available to test the children on Friday mornings at 9am, please let me know. It usually takes about half an hour.

Please remember to send your child to school with their book bag and all the books they need for school. If there is no book bag, there will be no book sent home, as the books were getting damaged last term.

Don't forget - we love to read the comments that you leave for us, so please continue to leave them...as often as you can!

Thanks for your support in these matters.

The deep dark forest...

Today we brainstormed all the things we wanted to write about in the future, and we came up with some really great ideas.

Today we dicided to write about the deep dark forest. The following are from some children who tried super hard and wrote amazing stories.

Dinosaur

I saw big feet in the jungle. His neck was higher. He was my friend. He put me on his back. I saw a small bad dinosaur.
By Junaid

The Haunted House

In a deep dark forest there was a big house. It looked like it was deserted so I went into the house. Suddenly some spikes popped up from the ground and a big flag came up. I heard some creaking floorboards. There was some music too. It was spooky. There was also a whole tomme of people there. They looked like pigs. Thery were friendly and the house was really big.
By Benji

The Secret of the Wings

A girl went into the forest. She saw a tree with some apples. She took a bite from the apple tree.  Suddenly she felt something on her back. There were some wings on her back! She saw some footprints then she followed them. She saw a man. He was a wizard. She could keep the wings. She flew high and low and fast and all around different countries. She was so happy.
By Delaney

The Girl

The little girl is ging to be eaten by a dinosaur but the girl escaped. The little girl ran to the zoo and trapped the dinosaur in his cage. The policeman cam and put him in jail forever.
By Rory

The Forest

I was sleeping in my bed in the deep dark forest. I was scared because a goblin was in my bed. He got squashed my a trashy truck.
By Marcel

In a Deep Dark Forest

In a deep dark forest an egg cracked open. Inside was a little bird. She went to see her mother. She was scared of the dark.

Our stories

Hi everyone,

Today we chose what stories we wanted to share on our blog out of all the stories we wrote this week.

We hope you like them and leave us a message about them so we know people read them.

Today Rory is coming to my house and we will play a game called gun game.
By Junaid

In the weekend I went to the slide with my sister and I laughed and liked playing with my sister. I had some fun.
By Oscar

We were driving in the car when there was a fight. My dad said, "Stop!". We continued on, but it was sorted out. It was fun driving.
By Philippa

When I went to the zoo we went to the giraffes. When we went to get an ice-block Carlos bit me. My mum said, "Carlos, you don't get an ice-block". Carlos was sad. I was happy that I got an ice-block. My ice-block tasted like strawberry.
By Hector

In the weekend I went to the pool to play monsters and after that I went home and I had hot chocolate. I had fun.
By Theo

I went outside.I took a step in the grass. Something was changed. I had a lot of flowers. There was only a little bit of grass. "Oh no! There is a castle next to my house!" There is a princess in the castle. Is it an evil princess? I am scared. She is coming out! I want a hug, but when she comes out, she wasn't a wicked princess afterall so I was safe.
By Delaney

My day was bad because my mum was leaving, but luckily my dad let me play angry birds. I stayed up late.
By Marcel

My name is Lightning. I'm a spy. I've been through lots of tornadoes and magnetors. Magnetors are a type of monster with a head like a bull and a body of a man. I've been through caves.

My house is getting painted today. The painters came over. There were three of them. It smelt disgusting. It was noisy when they were trying to get the old paint off. It was annoying! One painter said, "good morning". They all wore white shirts. I couldn't watch T.V.  I hope the new colour is worth all the bother!
By Isla McCaw

On Saturday I went to Kelly Sports.I had fun. I saw the penguins on the ice and I saw butterflies. I had a good week!

By Caitlin

In the weekend it was so dark that I couldn't see a thing. I was screaming with laughter. My mum was trying to cook as fast as she could. I was really excited! My dad was working on his computer until he saw something in the window. He jumped out of his chair with a big fright.  My friend arived. We had fun!!!
By Amelia

When I was getting dressed my brother was beating me up. I was shivering and shaking... I couldn't stop. He always does it. I couldn't breathe and my other brother does it too. My mum came along and said, "STOP!" Thank goodness for my mum. Afterwards, my mum gave me a lolly for being brave.
By Charlotte

When I went to the pool I played with my brothers and then we went home. We played tag in the dark.
